Real Madrid target could end up staying at Tottenham

Christian Eriksen could be forced into staying at Tottenham despite interest from Real Madrid and Manchester United, reports the Guardian.

The Dane’s current contract, which he signed in 2016, expires next summer and talks over a new deal are at an impasse.

Spurs are reluctant to lose Eriksen on a free transfer and if they wish to make a profit on the creator, they’ll need to sell this window or hope he extends his stay in north London.

However, only a handful of teams with sufficient resources can meet Daniel Levy’s asking price, of which Real Madrid and Manchester are two.

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane is keen on signing Paul Pogba from United, but president Florentino Perez prefers a move for Eriksen and after a summer splurge, Los Blancos need to sell before they can buy now.

Levy meanwhile is against selling to a Premier League rival, which has narrowed Eriksen’s options.

Juventus have previously shown an interest in a Denmark international, but might elect to wait until next summer and try to land the player on a free.

The big money arrival of Tanguy Ndombele could well convince Eriksen to sign a new deal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with the Frenchman the statement signing Spurs needed to make this summer.
