Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has quashed renewed talk of Hector Bellerin’s return to Barcelona; pointing to the fact the defender only signed a new deal recently.
Bellerin, 21, only signed a new six-year deal with Arsenal back in November but uncertainty around Wenger’s future at the club has rekindled Barcelona’s interest in their former defender.
The Spain international has established himself as one of the best full-backs in the Premier League in the last two campaigns and would be the ideal fit for Barcelona as Luis Enrique’s side look to sign a new right-back in the summer.
However, Wenger has laughed off speculation linking Bellerin with a return to Barcelona and has urged people not to take the speculation seriously.
“He just extended his contract,” the London Evening Standard quote Wenger as saying. “It’s an unbelievable amount of years to go. I believe again it’s very difficult to take these things seriously.”
Injuries have not allowed Bellerin to hit top form this season but he has still managed to contribute with two assists in the league, while only Antonio Valencia (34), Jose Holebas (33), Kyle Walker (32) and Adam Smith (31) have completed more dribbles of all defenders thus far (Bellerin - 30).
