Manchester United ace snubs China to extend Old Trafford stay

Juan Mata has turned down an approach from China and is poised to extend his Manchester United stay, reports The Daily Mirror.

The Spain international has entered the final 12 months of his existing deal but Jose Mourinho’s side are expected to trigger a contract extension to extend his stay until 2019.

Intermediaries are believed to have approached Mata’s representatives about the prospect of earning a huge wage hike on his current £165,000-a-week deal to move to China, but the 29-year-old is not interested in the move.

Mata was widely expected to leave United when Mourinho was appointed manager over 12 months ago but the Spaniard has only established himself as an integral player under his former Chelsea boss.

Since moving to Old Trafford in January 2013, only Wayne Rooney (68) has played a direct hand in more Premier League goals of all United players than Mata (44).
