Baldini leaves Spurs

Spurs have announced technical director Franco Baldini has left the club after more than two years at the club.

Baldini was heavily criticised for his role in the signings made following Gareth Bale’s world-record £85m departure in the 2013 summer transfer window.

Spurs signed seven players for around £100m, but too many failed to make any impact and only Christian Eriksen, Erik Lamela and Nacer Chadli remain at the club.

Roberto Soldado was the most notable flop from the seven signed. The Spaniard only managed seven league goals in 52 appearances and has since joined Villarreal. Etienne Capoue, Paulinho and Vlad Chiriches also moved on before the start of this season.

“Franco joined us as technical director in June 2013 from AS Roma where he was general director. He leaves us now to spend time outside of club football. We wish him all the best for the future,” a statement read on the club’s official website.
