Leicester are at an advanced stage in negotiations with James Maddison about a new long-term deal and hope to finalise discussions at the end of the month, claims The Daily Telegraph.
Maddison still has three-and-a-half years left to run on his existing Leicester deal but the Foxes want to reward the England international with new terms to reflect his growing reputation in the Premier League.
Manchester United briefly considered a move for Maddison in the January transfer market before quickly accepting a deal would be nearly impossible with Leicester battling to finish in the top four this season.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side instead decided to pause their pursuit until the end of the season and Leicester are now trying to ward off United's interest by securing Maddison's long-term future.
Despite only making his international debut at the end of last year, it would be a major surprise if Maddison failed to make Gareth Southgate's England squad for Euro 2020 unless injury rules him out.
Maddison has leapfrogged the likes of Dele Alli and Jesse Lingard in the pecking order for the Three Lions and it's not unreasonable to suggest the Leicester midfielder should start for England in the summer.
The 23-year-old has played a direct hand in nine goals in 24 league appearances for Leicester this season (six goals, three assists) and has won the WhoScored Man of the match award on four occasions.
However, Maddison's form has tailed off of late with only one goal and no assists in his last 10 appearances in all competitions.
