West Ham have made the first move for Manchester United target Gedson Fernandes, claims Sky Sports.
New West Ham manager David Moyes is desperate to bolster his midfield options as quickly as possible and is attempting to beat his old club for the Benfica starlet.
Fernandes is reportedly one of United’s midfield targets this month but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer risks missing out on the £34m-rated youngster.
West Ham, however, are discussing the prospect of an 18-month loan deal with an option to buy at the end of the 2020/21 campaign.
Moyes has already confirmed the club are interested in the 20-year-old, who has an eye-watering £104m release clause in his current Benfica deal.
Fernandes has struggled for regular playing time since breaking into the first-team last season, starting only 13 league games since August 2018.
