Tottenham still keen on Everton midfielder

Tottenham are still interested in signing Ross Barkley but will not match Everton’s stunning £50m valuation, reports The Sun.

Barkley has entered the final 12 months of his existing deal at Goodison Park and was told by manager Ronald Koeman he would be sold if he hadn’t resolved his future by the end of last season.

The Toffees have no interest in selling Barkley on the cheap and will try to extract maximum value from the England international, with Tottenham monitoring the situation at his boyhood club.

Everton are looking to make the 23-year-old the most expensive English player of all-time, eclipsing the £44m Manchester City shelled out to sign Raheem Sterling from Liverpool in 2015.

There is also the fact that Koeman has already signed a replacement for Barkley, who endured a tough first season under the Dutchman last season, in the shape of £25m Ajax midfielder Davy Klaassen.

In the last four Premier League seasons only midfielder has been dispossessed more times than Barkley (281).
