United to recoup £24m for Schneiderlin

Manchester United are confident of recouping £24m for Morgan Schneiderlin as the France midfielder closes in on a January switch to Everton, reports The Daily Telegraph.

Schneiderlin is free to leave United when the January transfer window opens after falling completely out of favour under Jose Mourinho, with Everton the frontrunners for his signature.

The 27-year-old was billed as the player that United could build their title challenge on when they signed him from Southampton in 2015 for £27m but the Frenchman has failed to establish himself as a first-team regular.

Schneiderlin made 25 league starts last season under Louis van Gaal, but has only managed 11 minutes of league football spread over three substitute appearances this season.

The France international hasn’t started a game for United since being hooked at half-time in their 2-1 defeat to Fenerbahce at the start of November and is reportedly on the cusp of a move to Everton, as Ronald Koeman seeks to strengthen his side in the January window.

However, Everton will likely be forced to pay £24m for the midfielder, who Koeman has earmarked as a long-term replacement for Gareth Barry. Most of the deal will be made up of add-ons, but the total package is likely to be close to what United paid for his services over a year ago.

Despite failing to establish himself as a regular, United have actually fared better in the league when Schneiderlin has started (56%) compared to when he has not been included in the starting XI (39.3%).
