Manchester United are ready to match Saul Niguez’s €80m (£62.4m) release clause in his Atletico Madrid contract, according to AS.
Jose Mourinho’s side have been heavily linked with a move for the versatile Atletico midfielder this year and he has become one of the most sought after stars following a breathtaking campaign.
Saul has previously expressed his desire to stay at Atletico and even signed a new five-year deal with an improved £62.4m release clause just under a month ago but Mourinho hasn’t given up in his attempts to bring the 21-year-old to Old Trafford.
Only Filipe Luis averaged more tackles per game (3.9) in La Liga for Atletico last season than Saul (3), who started 26 matches for Diego Simeone’s side in the league.
