Under pressure Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers will have selection problems ahead of the reception of Aston Villa on Saturday following news Roberto Firmino has become the fourth first-team player set for a lengthy spell on the treatment table.
Rodgers confirmed Firmino has cracked a bone in his back and will undergo further scans to learn the full extent of the injury after the £28m summer signing was forced off midway through the first half of their midweek win against Carlisle in the League Cup.
The former Hoffenheim forward has already withdrawn from Brazil’s squad for their upcoming games next month and now looks set to join Jordan Henderson, Christian Benteke and Dejan Lovren on the sidelines.
Firmino has struggled to settle in the Premier League since making the switch to Liverpool over the summer and has currently garnered a poor WhoScored rating of 6.81.
The 23-year-old is yet to score or assist a teammate in the league, but has notably contributed defensively. In fact, only three teammates are averaging more tackles per game than Firmino thus far (2.5).
