Injured Manchester United star set to miss out Newcastle clash
Paul Pogba is closing in on his Manchester United return but Saturday’s clash at home to Newcastle might come too soon for the midfielder, reports The Daily Telegraph.
The France international has missed United’s last 12 matches after suffering a hamstring injury in their 3-0 win over FC Basel at the start of September and Jose Mourinho’s side are keen to avoid rushing Pogba’s return.
Pogba is back in training and has an outside shot of featuring against Newcastle, but Mourinho is keen to ensure the 24-year-old only plays when he is at full fitness to avoid losing his star midfielder for another long spell on the sidelines.
United are currently eight points adrift of league leaders Manchester City and cannot afford to lose any more ground on Pep Guardiola’s side if they want to win the title.
Mourinho’s side have looked short of ideas in the final third in recent matches and Pogba’s long-awaited return will be a huge boost for the Red Devils, particularly ahead of the busy festive period.
The United No.6 is currently the highest rated player in the Premier League (8.09) after playing a direct hand in four goals in as many appearances (2 goals, 2 assists).
