Dayot Upamecano is poised to extend his contract with RB Leipzig by 12 months to end any uncertainty about his future this summer, claims Sky Germany.
The 21-year-old has been heavily linked with a high profile move to Manchester United and Bayern Munich after developing into one of the best defenders in Europe this season.
Upamecano's existing contract will only have 12 months left to run this summer and it was widely expected Leipzig would be forced to cash in.
It was only claimed earlier this week that Bayern had agreed personal terms with Upamecano, while United have reportedly already expressed an interest in the French starlet.
However, Upamecano will not join Bayern or anyone else this summer and instead continue his development at Leipzig for at least one more season.
Talks are understood to be at an advanced stage to extend Upamecano's contract to the summer of 2022, though a departure next year will be allowed.
After a frustrating 2018/19 campaign, when Upamecano only made 15 league appearances, the youngster has re-established himself as a key player for the club this season.
In fact, of recognised centre-backs in Europe's top five leagues this season, only Virgil van Dijk (7.40) has a higher WhoScored rating than Upamecano (7.23).
