Manchester City have been put on red alert after Pierre-Aubameyang has revealed he could leave Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season.
Aubameyang was heavily linked with a move to City in the summer after reportedly being earmarked as Pep Guardiola’s ideal frontman, although the 27-year-old has previously admitted his dream is to play in Spain amid links with Real Madrid.
The Gabon international still has four years remaining on his existing deal with Dortmund but has cast doubt over his long-term future at the club after revealing he doesn’t know whether he will see out the remainder of his contract.
“I don’t know if I will stay,” The Daily Mirror quote Aubameyang as saying. “I just think about playing good football right now. I want to give my best and win titles. I just think about the sport and nothing else.
“Last year I scored 18 goals before Christmas. I hope I can do better this year. But I also want to focus on the second half of the season.”
Aubameyang is on course to match his target of 18 goals before the winter break, having scored 15 goals in 12 league appearances so far this season. The highly rated striker has games against Cologne, Hoffenheim and Augsburg to score at least three goals to match or better his record last season.
Given there is no team Aubameyang has scored more goals against than Augsburg (7) in his career, it would be safe to assume he will score at least 18 goals in the first half of the season.
