Schweinsteiger in talks with Chicago Fire

Manchester United outcast Bastian Schweinsteiger is in talks with MLS side Chicago Fire, according to The Guardian.

Schweinsteiger, 31, has not featured for United this season after being kicked off the team by Jose Mourinho during the summer and the club are desperate to shift his wages off their salary list.

The Germany international made a shock return to first-team training earlier this month but isn’t expected to make another United appearance this season and is moving closer to an exit after entering talks with MLS side Chicago Fire.

The former Bayern Munich midfielder held talks with Chicago’s head coach Veljko Paunovic in Manchester on Friday but negotiations are still at an early stage.

Since the start of last season United have fared far better in the league without Schweinsteiger in the starting XI (52.8% win rate) than they have managed with him in the team (38.5%).
