Chelsea demand Atletico Madrid pay £50m for Morata

Chelsea are threatening to cut short Alvaro Morata’s stint at Atletico Madrid unless the Spanish side cough up £50m this summer, claims The Daily Telegraph.

Atletico signed Morata in January on loan until the end of next season after enduring a nightmare 18-month period at Chelsea.

Morata struggled to adjust to life in London and successfully managed to secure a return to Spain but could now be heading back to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have an option to recall Morata this summer and have warned Atletico they will terminate his loan deal if they do not sign him outright.

The west London outfit are currently unable to register new players due to a Fifa-imposed transfer ban and Morata's return would bolster their offensive options.

Atletico are currently in the process of smashing their transfer record to sign Benfica teenager Joao Felix in a deal worth £112.9m.

However, now Diego Simeone’s side are facing the prospect of losing Morata unless they shell out £50m to make his loan stint permanent.

The 26-year-old scored more goals in 15 league appearances for Atletico (six) during the second half of last season compared to his record in 16 league appearances for Chelsea at the start of the campaign (five).
