United to extend Valencia’s deal

Manchester United will look to exercise their right to extend Antonio Valencia’s deal by a further 12 months keeping him at the club until the end of next season, reports The Daily Mirror.

Valencia’s current deal is due to expire at the end of the season but the experienced wideman has become a key player under Jose Mourinho at right-back.

The 31-year-old isn’t expected to play a long-term role in that position as Mourinho searches for a more natural option, but Valencia has filled in at that position with relative success and is will be rewarded with an extra year at the club.

Valencia, who has only just returned from a broken arm, has spent the last seven years with United after joining from Wigan in 2009, although the last few have been used as a right-back.

The Ecuador international has completed at least four more crosses than any other full-back in the Premier League this season (17).
