Manchester United plot shock swoop for rival striker
Manchester United manager is eyeing up a surprise move for Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero, reports the Sun on Sunday.
The Argentine hitman has been linked with a move away from the Etihad Stadium in recent months, with head coach Pep Guardiola supposedly favouring Gabriel Jesus.
Real Madrid have been linked with a move for Aguero, but now United will hope to convince the Argentina international to remain in Manchester.
With Zlatan Ibrahimovic ruled out for the remainder of the year with a serious knee injury, Mourinho is light on forward options, especially considering the United head coach has admitted that the Swede is unlikely to return to his best form upon his recovery.
United have been linked with moves for Antoine Griezmann, Romelu Lukaku and Andrea Belotti, but could instead launch a £55m move for Aguero this summer.
The 28-year-old, who missed Saturday's 5-0 trouncing of Crystal Palace due to injury, has made just 23 league starts this season, but still has 18 league goals to his name as City maintain their pursuit of a top-4 finish.
