Oxlade-Chamberlain set for Liverpool contract extension

Liverpool will hand Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain a new 12-month contract extension following his return from injury, claims The Daily Mirror.

Oxlade-Chamberlain was expected to miss the whole of last season after suffering a serious knee injury in April 2018.

However, the 25-year-old made a quicker recovery than expected and managed to take part in two league games before the end of the campaign.

Oxlade-Chamberlain’s current £120,000-a-week deal is not due to expire until the summer of 2022 but Liverpool are poised to extend it by another season.

The England international emerged as a key player for Liverpool prior to injury and Jurgen Klopp is desperate for the versatile midfielder to rediscover that form next season.

Liverpool are not planning for another big summer spending spree after winning the Champions League last season and Oxlade-Chamberlain’s return to full fitness will be like a new signing.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has played a direct hand in 10 league goals in 34 league matches signing joining Liverpool from Premier League rivals Arsenal in the summer of 2017.
