Liverpool record breaker given first international call-up

Chris Coleman has handed 17-year-old Liverpool starlet Ben Woodburn his first senior Wales call-up in his squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifier against the Republic of Ireland.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp handed the academy graduate his Premier League debut back in November and Woodburn has gone on to make a further six appearances across all competitions since a brief cameo against Sunderland.

Woodburn even became Liverpool’s youngest ever goalscorer when he scored in a 2-0 League Cup win over Leeds just three days after making his league bow, breaking a record previously held by Michael Owen set in 1997.

The Liverpool starlet has represented Wales up until Under-19 level and the English Football Association have previously tried to convince the forward to switch allegiances, although Woodburn has never hinted at doing so in the past.
