Eriksen extends Spurs stay

Christian Eriksen has signed a new contract at Tottenham Hotspur.

The Dane has routinely been linked with a contract extension at White Hart Lane and on Tuesday put pen to paper on a new deal.

“We are delighted to announce that Christian Eriksen has signed a new contract with the Club until 2020,” a statement read on Tottenham’s official website.

“The Denmark international joined us from Ajax in August, 2013 and has since racked up 134 appearances in all competitions, scoring 30 goals. He recently passed the 100-game mark for us in the Premier League.

“Known for his trademark free-kicks, Christian's performances earned the Supporters' Clubs and One Hotspur members Player of the Season double in his first season and in the following campaign, he scored twice in the League Cup semi-final, second leg at Sheffield United to take us to Wembley.

“The playmaker's fine form in a Spurs shirt continued last term as he made another 47 appearances and scored eight times, including a crucial winner at Manchester City as we finished third in the Premier League to qualify for the group stages of the Champions League this season.

“Capped 63 times by Denmark, Christian made history back home in January by becoming the first player to win the Danish Football Player of the Year award - the equivalent of the PFA prize in England - three years in succession.”
