Everton boss wants reunion with Sunderland defender
Sam Allardyce wants to make Sunderland defender Lamine Kone one of his first signings as Everton manager, reports The Sun.
There will be money available for Allardyce to spend in the January transfer window and the new Everton manager is expected to dip into the market to bolster the club’s chances of beating the drop.
The Toffees have been a disaster at the back this season but Allardyce has already helped organised things during his short time at the Goodison Park.
Everton have kept three clean sheets on the spin but Allardyce wants to sign Kone to strengthen things at the heart of the Everton defence.
Allardyce signed Kone during his time as Sunderland manager and the Ivory Coast international has struggled to rediscover his best form since the 63-year-old left the Stadium of Light at the end of the 2015/16 campaign.
Sunderland are currently second from bottom in the Championship and would welcome the chance to get Kone’s hefty wages off the books in January.
