Arsenal see huge offer for defender rejected

Arsenal have seen a €60m bid for Dayot Upamecano rejected by Bundesliga side RB Leipzig as the Gunner suffered another blow in their push for another centre-back, reports Bild.

Gunners boss Unai Emery is looking to land another defender before Thursday’s 5pm deadline and his side has been linked with a move for Daniele Rugani.

However, their two-year loan with an option to buy proposal was rejected by Juventus, while Wolves have supposedly lodged a €30m bid for the 25-year-old.

A failure to convince Juventus to loan Rugani has seen the Gunners turn their attention to Upamecano, who struggled to hold down a regular starting berth in Germany last season.

The 20-year-old made just 14 league starts for RB Leipzig last season, but was impressive for France at the U21 Euros this summer.

Despite boasting ample centre-back options, RB Leipzig are reluctant to cash in on the Frenchman and rejected Arsenal’s big money bid for Upamecano.

RB Leipig’s win ratio was in fact better without Upamecano starting in the Bundesliga last season, rising from 42.9% when he did start to 65% when he didn’t feature from the off.
