United keepings tabs of Barcelona star

Manchester United have asked to be kept in the loop in Neymar’s future at Barcelona with a view to completing a sensational world record deal for the forward, claims The Daily Record.

Neymar, 24, only signed a new five-year deal keeping him at Barcelona until 2021 last month but it is reported that there are still tensions between the player and club, with a move away from the Catalonian giants still a possibility.

United broke the world record when they re-signed Paul Pogba from Juventus in the summer and would have no qualms in shattering it again should Neymar become available for transfer, although it would take more than double what they paid for Pogba to sign the Brazil international.

Neymar’s new deal includes a fixed release clause of £170m during the first year, but that gradually increases each year, which means United would realistically want to sign the forward quickly rather than eventually having to pay £212m to sign him.

The Brazilian, who helped his country win gold at the 2016 Olympics earlier this year, has not had the best of seasons for Barcelona this season but is still posting phenomenal numbers. In fact, no player has completed more dribbles in Europe’s top five leagues than Neymar thus far (58).
