Everton hold talks for Barcelona outcast

Everton have their sights set on another Barcelona raid with Carlo Ancelotti keen on defender Jean-Clair Tobido, claims The Daily Mail.

Ancelotti is looking to bolster his defensive options for the 2020/21 campaign after failing to settle on a first-choice pairing this season.

Everton believe they have won the race for Lille starlet Gabriel in a deal worth around £25m but Ancelotti wants further defensive reinforcement.

Mason Holgate, Michael Keane and Yerry Mina have all rotated amongst themselves this season and Everton's pursuit of Todibo suggests one could be sold this summer.

Tobido is deemed surplus to requirements by Barcelona just over 12 months since joining from French side Toulouse.

Barcelona tried to sell the 20-year-old in January but talks with AC Milan collapsed before the youngster joined Schalke on loan for the remainder of the season.

The Bundesliga outfit have an option to sign Todibo in their loan deal worth €30m (£26.1m) but it remains to be seen whether they will sanction a deal.

A deal between Everton and Barcelona should be relatively straightforward, as the Toffees have already signed Andre Gomes, Lucas Digne and Mina from the Spanish side in the last two years.

Todibo has made more league appearances for Schalke (5) than he has since joining Barcelona (4) in January 2019.

Of players to have made at least five Bundesliga appearances this season, Todibo averages more interceptions (3.7) per 90 minutes than any other player in the division.
