Tottenham unlikely to sign RB Leipzig captain this month
Tottenham remain in the driving seat to sign Marcel Sabitzer from Bundesliga giants RB Leipzig, but the north London side are unlikely to land the Austrian this month, reports The Athletic.
Spurs had been linked with a move for Sabitzer in the summer as Jose Mourinho sought to strengthen his midfield further following the capture of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
However, the north London side were unable to convince RB Leipzig to sell and it's unlikely that the German outfit would be prepared to cash in on their captain in the January window.
Mourinho is believed to be prepared to listen to offers for Harry Winks and Dele Alli this month, though without a replacement for either, or both, the Spurs boss may elect to keep at least one until the summer.
By that point, Sabizter would have one year left to run on his current RB Leipzig deal and would be available for around £30m.
RB Leipzig remain in the running to secure the Bundesliga title and with a Champions League meeting with Liverpool next month, they're unlikely to sanction the 26-year-old's sale.
Sabitzer has made eight league starts this season and is expected to feature from the off when RB Leipzig take on Borussia Dortmund this weekend.
