No room for Ronaldo as three from Arsenal make best new signing XI

Cristiano Ronaldo's return to Manchester United was the headline-grabbing summer transfer in the Premier League. However, as impressive as Ronaldo has been at Old Trafford, he does not make the WhoScored best rated new signing XI, a team dominated by Premier League rivals Arsenal...

Aaron Ramsdale (Arsenal) - 6.96

In his four league outings for Arsenal, Aaron Ramsdale has conceded one goal having kept clean sheets in meetings with Norwich, Burnley and Brighton. Ramsdale has saved nine of the 10 shots on target he has faced and that has helped him to a WhoScored rating of 6.96.

Takehiro Tomiyasu (Arsenal) - 6.92

Another Arsenal player to make the cut, Takehiro Tomiyasu has proven a solid addition to the Gunners squad following his deadline day arrival from Bologna. The Japan international has been solid in the air, with a 75% aerial success rate the fifth best of the 106 players to contest 15 or more aerial duels in the Premier League this season, that contributing to a WhoScored rating of 6.92.

Ben White (Arsenal) - 6.88

Yes, another Arsenal player, and the third and final Gunners representative. There was ample pressure on Ben White to make an immediate impact for the north London side following his big money capture from Brighton, but he has begun to live up to expectations. Four clearances per game ranks among the top 20 players and has helped White to a WhoScored rating of 6.88.

Raphael Varane (Manchester United) - 6.84

Partnering White at the heart of the defence is Manchester United's Raphael Varane, who has garnered a WhoScored rating of 6.84. An aerial success rate of 66.7% is the 12th best in the Premier League this season, yet having sustained a knock on international duty, United will have to make do without the Frenchman for a few weeks.

Marc Cucurella (Brighton) - 7.18

Rounding off the defence is Brighton's Marc Cucurella. The 23-year-old excelled for Getafe last season and has made an immediate impact for the Seagulls, with 3.5 tackles per game the third best in the Premier League. The Spaniard has broken forward well, too, averaging 1.5 key passes and one successful dribble per game, landing a WhoScored rating of 7.18 in the process.

Andros Townsend (Everton) - 7.34

Two Everton players feature in this XI, which given many believed they endured a poor window, speaks volumes of Rafa Benitez's management capabilities. Andros Townsend's equaliser in Everton's 1-1 draw at Manchester United was his third Premier League goal this season, bettering his record from the previous two league campaigns combined (2) with the winger landing a WhoScored rating of 7.34 to feature.

Conor Gallagher (Crystal Palace) - 7.19

An inspired loan signing from Chelsea, Conor Gallagher is enjoying his time at Crystal Palace, noted in his commendable WhoScored rating of 7.19. The 21-year-old has two goals and one assist to his name, while 2.2 tackles per game is a respectable return for the youngster.

Jack Grealish (Manchester City) - 7.28

Manchester City's big money signing of the summer has made a solid start to life at the Etihad Stadium having had a direct hand in two goals following his arrival from Aston Villa. 2.6 key passes per game is the sixth best return in the division, while 1.9 dribbles per game also ranks high, helping Jack Grealish to a WhoScored rating of 7.28.

Demarai Gray (Everton) - 7.21

The second Toffees player in the best new signing XI, Demarai Gray has proven a bargain buy for Everton. Costing just a reported £1.7m, the Merseyside outfit struck gold over the summer, with Gray having a direct hand in four goals, scoring three, in his seven league outings this season.

Hwang Hee-Chan (Wolves) - 7.13

Only four Wolves players have scored more league goals than Hwang Hee-Chan (3) since the start of the 2020/21 Premier League season. He's registered 250 minutes of game time. The South Korean has quickly proven a fan favourite at Molineux having earned a WhoScored rating of 7.13 this season.

Romelu Lukaku (Chelsea) - 7.53

With a WhoScored rating of 7.53, Romelu Lukaku is the Premier League's best rated new signing. The Belgian returned to Chelsea over the summer and has hit the back of the net three times in his six outings. While the performance levels have dipped, Lukaku has been superb back at Stamford Bridge.
