Trent maintains fine Liverpool form to make Premier League team of the week
This week’s team of the week is dominated by Liverpool after their 3-0 win over Leicester on Monday night. Brentford, Brighton, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Manchester City and Nottingham Forest are also represented in the XI.
In between the sticks after his side’s 3-0 win over Leicester, is Liverpool’s Alisson as Jurgen Klopp’s side continued their chase for Champions League football. The Brazilian made four saves and one claim, and was heavily involved in the Reds’ build-up play with his 48 touches only being bettered by six Leicester players. Alisson earned a WhoScored rating of 7.80 as a result.
Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool) – 8.43
Continuing his fine form of late, Trent Alexander-Arnold makes it into the XI at right-back with a WhoScored rating of 8.43. While he has been surging up the assist charts with six alone in April, on Monday it was his turn to find the net, scoring Liverpool’s third of the night. On top of this, Alexander-Arnold completed three dribbles, made one key pass and one interception.
Joachim Andersen (Crystal Palace) – 7.86
Crystal Palace returned to winning ways at the weekend with a 2-0 win over Bournemouth. While Eberechi Eze continued to impress in attack, Joachim Andersen likewise did so in defence. With a WhoScored rating of 7.86, Andersen was solid at the back making more tackles (6) than any other player on the pitch, while he also made three clearances, two interceptions and won two aerial duels. He was influential throughout the game for Palace, noted in this his 109 touches was the most of any player on the pitch.
Levi Colwill (Brighton) – 7.76
Brighton also managed to return to winning ways this week as they all but ended Arsenal’s title hopes with a 3-0 win at the Emirates on Sunday. While not among the goals, Levi Colwill played his part in the win. The centre-back was the only player on the pitch to register 100+ touches (111), while he also made the most accurate passes (85). Though the Gunners didn’t dominate possession as many would have expected, they did still pose a threat and Colwill ensured the clean sheet was maintained, making two tackles, five clearances and more interceptions (3) than any other player on the pitch.
Pervis Estupinan (Brighton) – 8.00
Completing the backline is Colwill’s teammate, Pervis Estupinan, who with a WhoScored rating of 8.00, was the man of the match in the Seagulls’ win over Arsenal. Estupinan contributed defensively with one tackle, one interception and one clearance, but it was in attack where he really shone. It was his key pass that led to Julio Enciso’s opener, registering his fifth assist of the league campaign in the process, while he also managed to find the net in the closing stages of the game.
Bryan Mbeumo (Brentford) – 8.76
It is now three wins in four for Brentford as they looked to keep the pressure on the European places as they beat West Ham 2-0 on Saturday. Bryan Mbeumo put in a man of the match display, returning an 8.76 WhoScored rating after he scored once from a total of six shots, while his four successful dribbles was more than any other player. Further to this, only Mathias Jensen (3) registered more key passes than Mbeumo (2), while the latter also won possession in the midfield third (5) the joint most times of any player in the London derby.
Ilkay Gundogan (Manchester City) – 9.14
With a WhoScored rating of 9.14, Manchester City’s Ilkay Gundogan is the player of the week, as Pep Guardiola’s side inched closer to securing a third successive league title after a 3-0 win over Everton on Sunday. Gundogan, like last season, is proving the key man in the side during the run-in as he bagged a brace from two shots, bringing him to four goals in his last two Premier League appearances, and provided the assist for Erling Haaland's 36th league goal of the season from one of two key passes.
Curtis Jones (Liverpool) – 9.03
The third Liverpool player in the XI is Curtis Jones, who was the WhoScored man of the match in the win over Leicester with a 9.03 WhoScored rating. Jones bagged a brace at the King Power Stadium, netting from just three shots in the match. Additionally, the midfielder completed all three of his attempted tackles, registered two key passes and maintained a pass success rate of 90.9%.
Raheem Sterling (Chelsea) – 9.08
Unable to follow up their win over Bournemouth last week, Chelsea were held to a 2-2 draw by relegation threatened Nottingham Forest. Raheem Sterling put in a near perfect performance, earning a WhoScored rating of 9.08 after scoring both of Chelsea’s goals. He was a constant threat to the Forest backline, recording more shots (5), having more touches in the opposition box (9) and completing more dribbles (4) than any other player.
Taiwo Awoniyi (Nottingham Forest) – 8.09
Also scoring twice in the game at Stamford Bridge was Nottingham Forest’s Taiwo Awoniyi. The striker, who has been in fine form of late, scored his two goals from just two shots, while he also won the second most aerial duels (3) in west London and made two tackles, helping Awoniyi to a WhoScored rating of 8.09.
Yoane Wissa (Brentford) – 8.03
Joining Awoniyi on the fronltine is Yoane Wissa. With an 8.03 WhoScored rating, Wissa proved to be one of the key players in Brentford's win over West Ham, recording the second most shots (5), one of which he scored from, and also registering a key pass. His four aerial duels won could only be bettered by West Ham’s Ben Johnson (5), while his nine touches in the opposition box could only be bettered by teammate Bryan Mbeumo (11).
