Liverpool and Man Utd make up seven representatives in Team of the Week
Following a resounding 7-0 win over Crystal Palace, it's no surprise that Liverpool are the dominant side in the Premier League team of the week with the champions boasting four representatives in the best XI. Manchester United have two players make the cut after a 6-2 win over Leeds, while Chelsea and Manchester City stars also make the cut.
Ederson (Manchester City) - 7.35
Ederson earned his sixth clean sheet of the season in Manchester City's 1-0 win at Southampton over the weekend and put in a solid shift between the sticks at St. Mary's. The Brazilian made three saves in all on the south coast to return a WhoScored rating of 7.35 to feature in the final Premier League team of the week before Christmas.
Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool) - 7.73
The first of four Liverpool players to feature on the back of their resounding 7-0 win at Crystal Palace, Trent Alexander-Arnold registered just his second Premier League assist of the season in the victory, teeing up Jordan Henderson to sweep past Guaita. That assist came from one of two key passes, while additional returns of two tackles and two interceptions saw the right-back land a WhoScored rating of 7.73.
Thiago Silva (Chelsea) - 8.83
Ensuring it isn't a Liverpool clean sweep in defence is experienced Chelsea centre-back Thiago Silva. The defender netted the opener in their 3-0 win over West Ham, heading home from Mason Mount's first half corner, and routinely exhibited a strength of 'passing' as he found a teammate with 92.2% of his 77 attempted passes. Off the ball, the 36-year-old excelled, winning seven aerial duels, making seven clearances, three interceptions and one tackle to yield a WhoScored rating of 8.83.
Fabinho (Liverpool) - 8.18
It's an all-Brazilian centre-back partnership in the team of the week with Fabinho joining Silva at the heart of the defence. The 27-year-old was impressive once more for the Reds on Saturday as he mustered a 95.6% pass success rate from his 90 passes. Palace struggled to get the better of Fabinho over the weekend, with four clearances, four tackles and four interceptions helping the Reds fan favourite to a WhoScored rating of 8.18.
Andrew Robertson (Liverpool) - 8.63
Rounding off the defence is the third Liverpool representative in the best XI this week. Andrew Robertson was on hand to bag his fifth league assist of the season on Saturday, teeing up Roberto Firmino for Liverpool's third on the stroke of half time. That assist came from one of four key passes at Selhurst Park as the Scot put in a performance warranting a WhoScored rating of 8.63.
Bertrand Traore (Aston Villa) - 9.33
Aston Villa dominated against West Brom on Sunday, with Bertrand Traore putting in a man of the match showing from the right. Traore provided the assist for Anwar El Ghazi's opening goal after five minutes, that coming from one of two key passes, before getting on the scoresheet himself in the latter stages of the clash. With three successful dribbles to his name, Traore did enough to garner a WhoScored rating of 9.33.
Scott McTominay (Manchester United) - 9.41
It's an all-Manchester United central midfield pairing in the team of the week, with Scott McTominay making the cut with a WhoScored rating of 9.41. The Scotland international had a direct hand in three of the six goals Manchester United netted in their entertaining 6-2 win over Leeds. McTominay scored twice in the opening three minutes at Old Trafford and provided the assist for Daniel James midway through the second half, with those coming from respective returns of three shots and three key passes.
Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United) - 9.13
Bruno Fernandes joins McTominay in the middle of the park as the Portuguese star, like his United teammate, also had a direct hand in three goals in United's win over Leeds. Fernandes provided the assist for McTominay's opener and bagged a brace in the victory over Marcelo Bielsa's side, as he managed three key passes and five shots to return a WhoScored rating of 9.13.
Anwar El Ghazi (Aston Villa) - 8.86
The second Villa player to make the cut is Anwar El Ghazi after his two-goal salvo in their 3-0 win at West Brom. The winger bagged his second and third league goals of the season at the Hawthorns, with his brace coming from eight shots in total. El Ghazi also completed two dribbles against West Brom to make the XI on the left flank with a WhoScored rating of 8.86.
Anthony Martial (Manchester United) - 9.89
With a rating of 9.89, Anthony Martial is the WhoScored Premier League player of the week. The Frenchman was unfortunate not to get on the scoresheet having managed four shots against Leeds, but was on hand to register his second and third assists of the season having set up one of Scott McTominay's two goals and provided for Victor Lindelof. The brace of assists came from four key passes, while seven successful dribbles in all helped Martial to the player of the week award.
Roberto Firmino (Liverpool) - 9.18
The fourth and final Liverpool man in the Premier League team of the week is in-form Reds star Roberto Firmino. The 29-year-old earned his third WhoScored man of the match award of the season in the 7-0 win at Crystal Palace having scored twice and assisted once at Selhurst Park. Firmino boasted a 100% conversion rate having hit the back of the net with his two efforts on goal, while his assist for Sadio Mane came from one key pass as the Brazilian landed a WhoScored rating of 9.18.
