Sane the star man in Premier League team of the month
There’s a London spine to our Premier League team of the month in a period that saw Manchester City extend their lead at the top of the table. England's capital in fact makes up for six of the 11 players in the side, but it’s a player for the table toppers that is our Premier League player of the month. Leroy Sane continues to go from strength to strength for Pep Guardiola’s side and contributed three goals and three assists in October in wins over Stoke, Burnley and West Brom.
The young German gained a WhoScored.com rating of 8.46, piping teammate Raheem Sterling to the accolade. The England international secured a rating of 8.39 last month as he scored two and laid on two assists for Manchester City, with a direct hand in three goals against Stoke City landing the WhoScored man of the match award with a 9.10. Fernandinho wraps up the City contingent, with the Brazilian scoring two and assisting one last month.
Tiemoue Bakayoko is the sole non-Manchester City man in the midfield, with the Chelsea man earning a WhoScored rating off 7.93 in October. The Frenchman scored one and assisted another and made 11 tackles over the course of the month. Bakayoko’s teammate Eden Hazard features up front, with the Belgian completing 13 dribbles - no player made more - and making 13 key passes, the latter return level with strike partner Alexis Sanchez.
It’s an Arsenal centre-back pairing in Per Mertesacker and Nacho Monreal, with the former winning 21 aerial duels and on hand to make 20 clearances for the Gunners. Monreal, meanwhile, scored his first and second Premier League goals for Arsene Wenger’s side in October, while 12 tackles and interceptions combined was a notable return for the Spaniard.
Kieran Trippier was an effective performer in his two Premier League appearances last month as the Tottenham man contributed one assist, that in a 4-1 win over Liverpool, to return a WhoScored rating of 7.85. Christian Fuchs rounds off the defence after a series of solid performances for Leicester. The left-back, like Trippier, picked up an assist and made 11 interceptions for the Foxes.
Nick Pope completes the XI as the goalkeeper goes from strength to strength between the Burnley sticks. The 25-year-old kept two clean sheets from four appearances and mustered an impressive save success rate of 84%, making 21 saves in the process as the Clarets continue to excel.
