Creative force Fernandes heads Man Utd trio in Premier League midweek best XI

 

Manchester United put in their most complete performance under Erik ten Hag on Wednesday night as they saw off Tottenham 2-0 at Old Trafford, though having battered the Spurs goal, the scoreline did flatter the visitors. United have three players make the midweek best XI, so too do Crystal Palace, while Liverpool, Newcastle, Nottingham Forest and Leicester are also represented. 

 

Dean Henderson (Nottingham Forest) - 8.76 

 

Nottingham Forest earned their second point from their last three games at Brighton on Tuesday night, and while they remain rooted to the foot of the table, Dean Henderson ensured they returned to Nottingham with a positive result. The England international made seven saves in a man of the match display to secure his spot in the Premier League midweek best XI with a WhoScored rating of 8.76. 

 

Kieran Trippier (Newcastle) - 8.04 

 

Making the Premier League team of the week for the sixth time this season, Kieran Trippier won his third WhoScored man of the match award of the season in Newcastle's 1-0 win over Everton. Trippier was unfortunate not to register an assist as he made four key passes, and was solid off the ball, as he made four tackles and two interceptions, to return a WhoScored rating of 8.04. 

 

Daniel Amartey (Leicester) - 7.46 

 

Leicester earned just their second league win of the season to pull themselves to within one point of safety at Leeds' expense on Thursday night, with Daniel Amartey impressing in defence. Amartey was superb off the ball, making four tackles and four clearances, while in possession, found a teammate with ease, returning a 92.5% pass success rate from 53 passes to yield a WhoScored rating of 7.46. 

 

Fabian Schar (Newcastle) - 7.41 

 

The second Newcastle player in the side partners Amartey at the heart of the defence. Fabian Schar remained steadfast at the back for the Magpies in their win over Everton, making two tackles, two clearances and one interception, all the while winning five aerial duels, as he garnered a WhoScored rating of 7.41. 

 

 

Luke Shaw (Manchester United) - 7.50 

 

Rounding off the backline is the first of three Manchester United players following their impressive 2-0 win over Tottenham. Luke Shaw was imperious out of possession for United at Old Trafford on Wednesday night, making four tackles, all the while creating two goalscoring chances, to land a WhoScored rating of 7.50. 

 

Michael Olise (Crystal Palace) - 7.82 

 

Michael Olise occupies the right midfield spot as the first of three Crystal Palace players in the midweek best XI. Olise provided the assist for Eberechi Eze's equaliser shortly after the restart, that coming from one of five key passes, and completed two dribbles, to feature with a WhoScored rating of 7.82. 

 

Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United) - 9.20 

 

The best rated player from the midweek round of Premier League fixtures, Bruno Fernandes returned a WhoScored rating of 9.20 in Manchester United's win over Tottenham. Fernandes scored United's second midway through the second half on Wednesday night, beating Hugo Lloris with one of six shots, while a return of nine key passes is a record in a Premier League match this season as he excelled on home turf.

Fred (Manchester United) - 8.73 

 

Joining Fernandes in the middle of the park is United teammate Fred. When fans saw his name on the teamsheet, they feared the worst, but Fred put in his best rated Premier League performance of his career as he earned a WhoScored rating of 8.73. The Brazilian hit the back of the net with one of six(!) shots in front of the United faithful, while three key passes, two interceptions and one tackle was enough to see the 29-year-old make the best XI. 

 

Wilfried Zaha (Crystal Palace) - 8.64 

 

The second Crystal Palace player in the side, Wilfried Zaha makes the best XI on the left flank having scored the winning goal midway through the second half against Wolves on Tuesday night. Zaha was a thorn in the side of the Wolves backline all evening as he completed six dribbles and made four tackles to land a WhoScored rating of 8.64. 

 

Odsonne Edouard (Crystal Palace) - 7.73 

 

Rounding off the Crystal Palace contingent is striker Odsonne Edouard. The Eagles frontman provided the assist for Zaha's winning goal, that coming from his only key pass of the game against Wolves. The 24-year-old worked hard to ensure the result for Palace, making four tackles and two interceptions, to secure his spot in the side with a WhoScored rating of 7.73. 

 

Darwin Nunez (Liverpool) - 7.77 

 

Linking up with Edouard on the frontline is Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez. The Uruguayan scored for his third start running in a Reds shirt, netting the decisive goal in Liverpool's 1-0 win over West Ham. In addition to his goal, Nunez also struck the woodwork and mustered six shots overall during his 57 minutes on the pitch to round off the XI with a WhoScored rating of 7.77
