As well as the clash in Paris, here we give our tips once again on all of this week’s mouth-watering Champions League action.

TUESDAY

Barcelona vs Atletico Madrid - Full Match Preview

The consensus seems to be that this is the tie, at least at this stage of the competition, that both Barca and Atleti wanted to avoid. The holders are favourites to retain their crown this year but many feel that if there is one side capable of frustrating the blaugrana over two legs it is Diego Simeone’s.

The rojiblancos dumped Barca out of the tournament on route to the final at this stage two years ago, but their meetings with Tuesday’s opponents since have not gone to plan. In the space of a year up to and including the last match between the two in January, these sides met 6 times with Barcelona winning all 6. With each of the last five encounters seeing this week’s hosts win by a one goal margin, we’re backing a repeat @3.40 with Bet365, tipping Luis Enrique’s side to bounce back from their clasico disappointment in a tight affair.

Bayern Munich vs Benfica - Full Match Preview

With Pep Guardiola’s men the outstanding favourites as they host Benfica at the Allianz, there’s very little value in backing the Bundesliga champions. Indeed, many are underestimating a Benfica side that have won 19 of their last 20 matches in all competitions, and while Bayern trounced Portuguese opposition at home in the form of Porto at this stage of the Champions League last year, a repeat seems less likely.

The German league leaders have not been at their domineering best since the turn of the year, not least against Juventus in the round of 16 having been minutes away from elimination. Indeed, in 14 instances in all competitions in 2016 their matches have generally been very tight come the interval, with 9 seeing exactly one goal scored between the sides in the first half. If you fancy this game to be the tenth then the odds of exactly one first half goal sit at a very tempting 2.62.

WEDNESDAY

PSG vs Manchester City - Full Match Preview

And so we come to the main event with Bet365 this week, with Manuel Pellegrini’s men rightly considered underdogs ahead of their visit to the Parc des Princes. The Citizens may have looked back to their best going forwards against Bournemouth but this is a different kettle of fish altogether against a PSG side looking the closest of any to be considered in the same bracket as the likes of Barcelona, Bayern, and Real Madrid this season.

While Laurent Blanc’s men may have taken their foot off the gas in the league, and understandably so having already clinched the title, the fact that defeat to Monaco ahead of the international break was their first at home all season proves just how formidable they have been. A £50 pre-match bet on PSG to win @1.72 seems more than reasonable then, returning a profit of £36 and triggering a risk-free in-play bet of the same value.

If you’re not the patient type, an early in-play bet on the scores to be level at half time and PSG to go on to win by full time looks very tasty. Such an eventuality has played out in each of the Parisians’ last three Champions League matches, with the odds on a repeat currently as high as 4.33, with a £50 matched bet leaving a hefty £166.50 profit.

Wolfsburg vs Real Madrid - Full Match Preview

Most would consider this to be the most one-sided tie of the quarter-finals, and unfortunately for Wolfsburg that assumption is certainly justified. After a fantastic campaign last time out the Wolves have underwhelmed to sit 8th in the Bundesliga following a heavy 3-0 defeat to Leverkusen at the weekend. Dieter Hecking’s side have a strong home record, losing only to Bayern and Dortmund at the Volkswagen Arena this season, but face a Madrid side in high spirits following their victory in el clasico.

Zinedine Zidane’s side haven’t been particularly convincing on the road in general since his appointment but in Cristiano Ronaldo they have a player who has scored as many goals in this season’s Champions League as the entire Wolfsburg team combined (13). Without the injured Naldo, the hosts could be ripped apart, so odds of 2.60 on Real Madrid to win by at least two goals seem very favourable.
