Arsenal pair shine bright in Premier League best XI after toppling Tottenham
Following their North London Derby win, Arsenal have two players make the Premier League team of the week as they eased to a 3-1 win over Tottenham. Manchester City have one representative in the best XI after their important 1-0 win at Chelsea, while Liverpool, Aston Villa and West Ham also have players make the cut.
Wolves held firm to secure an important 1-0 win at Southampton on Sunday with Jose Sa playing an important role between the sticks. Indeed, the Portuguese shotstopper made six saves at St. Mary's and provided the assist for Raul Jimenez's second half strike, becoming the first goalkeeper to register an assist in the Premier League this season, to land a WhoScored rating of 8.15.
Joel Veltman (Brighton) - 8.01
Brighton resuced a late point at Crystal Palace on Monday night courtesy of Neal Maupay's cool finish, with Joel Veltman providing the assist for the Frenchman. That came from his only key pass at Selhurst Park, while the Dutchman's work off the ball caught the eye as he made eight tackles, more than any other player in gameweek six, to contribute towards his WhoScored rating of 8.01.
Kortney Hause (Aston Villa) - 7.79
On his first league start of the season, Kortney Hause put in a man of the match shift as Aston Villa earned a 1-0 win at Manchester United on Saturday. The 26-year-old scored the decisive goal in the victory at Old Trafford and was solid at the back to help Villa to a clean sheet as he made two interceptions and one clearance to secure a spot in the side with a WhoScored rating of 7.79.
Ethan Pinnock (Brentford) - 7.59
Ethan Pinnock may have been forced off after 43 minutes with a suspected hip injury, but during his time on the pitch, the Brentford man impressed against Liverpool. He bagged his first league goal of the season in Saturday's 3-3 draw, and impressed out of possession with the ball in the air or on the deck as he won four aerial duels, and made five clearances and one interception. His performance was enough to make the team of the week with a WhoScored rating of 7.59.
Joao Cancelo (Manchester City) - 7.55
Rounding off the defence is Manchester City's Joao Cancelo. The full-back provided the assist for Gabriel Jesus' winner at Chelsea on Saturday, that coming from one of two key passes at Stamford Bridge. Cancelo got forward well when needed, completing three dribbles, while three interceptions, one tackle and one clearance sees him feature in the XI with a WhoScored rating of 7.55.
Leeds may have endured a poor start to the season, with their 2-1 loss to West Ham meaning they have picked up just three points after six games, but the performances of Raphinha remain cause for optimism. The Brazilian bagged his third league goal of the season against the Hammers, hitting the back of the net with one of three shots, and was unfortunate not to register an assist as he created three goalscoring chances. Three successful dribbles and two clearances meant Raphinha was good value for his inclusion in the best XI with a WhoScored rating of 8.46.
Curtis Jones (Liverpool) - 7.88
It's an all-Merseyside central midfield partnership in the best XI this week with Curtis Jones securing a spot in the side. The 20-year-old bagged his first league goal of the season on his first Premier League start of 2021/22, powering an effort past David Raya in the second half, that one of four shots he managed in west London. In addition, Jones made three tackles and completed two dribbles to secure a spot in the side with a WhoScored rating of 7.88.
Abdoulaye Doucoure (Everton) - 7.80
A goal in Everton's 2-0 win over Norwich means Abdoulaye Doucoure has had a direct hand in five league goals this season, matching his total from the 2020/21 campaign. The midfielder's second Premier League goal of 2021/22 came from one of two shots against the Canaries. Four tackles and two clearances helped the Toffees to a clean sheet victory and Doucoure to spot alongside Jones with a WhoScored rating of 7.80.
Emile Smith Rowe (Arsenal) - 8.07
The first of two Arsenal players in the team of the week, Emile Smith Rowe had a direct hand in two of the Gunners' three goals in Sunday's North London Derby win over Tottenham. Smith Rowe fired Arsenal ahead with just 12 minutes on the clock and then turned provider for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang midway through the first half, those coming from respective returns of one shot and two key passes. An additional two dribbles ensures the 21-year-old occupies the left wing spot with a WhoScored rating of 8.07.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Arsenal) - 8.47
Boasting a WhoScored rating of 8.47, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is our Premier League player of the week. Aubameyang's goal came from one of four shots in the North London Derby victory, while six aerial duels won and three tackles sees the 32-year-old feature on the frontline this week.
Michail Antonio (West Ham) - 8.41
Joining Aubameyang in attack is West Ham star Michail Antonio. The Hammers hitman bagged his fifth league goal of the season at Leeds on Saturday, scoring late on to secure all the spoils for David Moyes' side. Antonio was in confident mood at Elland Road, mustering seven shots in total, and he was unfortunate not to add an assist as he managed four key passes to contribute towards a WhoScored rating of 8.41.
