La Liga round-up: Levante shotstopper shines to pile misery upon Real Madrid

Levante piled the pressure on Julen Lopetegui with a 2-1 win at the Bernabeu over the weekend to inflict further misery upon Real Madrid. Los Blancos have now failed to win in five in all competitions with defeat in the Spanish capital seeing them drop to seventh in La Liga. However, they were unlucky to lose in front of their own fans on Saturday.

Real Madrid dominated possession in the loss, enjoying 70% of the ball, and had 12 shots on target, but were unable to break down Levante’s resolute defensive rearguard, largely due to the inspired performance of Oier. The goalkeeper, who once earned a WhoScored rating of just 1.89 at the Bernabeu, made 11 saves in Levante’s win, more than any other goalkeeper in a La Liga match this season, to help return a WhoScored rating of 8.77, that better than any other player in Spain’s top tier this week.

The only player to find a way past the Spaniard was left-back Marcelo, who despite being on the losing side against Levante, still did enough to land a WhoScored rating of 8.75 in the defeat. The Brazilian scored from one of four shots, while seven key passes and four successful dribbles was enough to cap off a solid display from the left-back.

Barcelona striker Luis Suarez rounds off the top performing trio of the week as he scored one and assisted another in an entertaining 4-2 win over Sevilla. The victory ended Barcelona’s four-match winless run in the league as the Blaugrana moved to the top of La Liga, with the Uruguayan’s goal coming from seven shots and assist from three key passes, that enough to secure a WhoScored rating of 8.68.

Sevilla shotstopper Tomas Vaclik foots the player ratings table this week as the Czech goalkeeper landed a WhoScored rating of just 5.34 in the loss to Barcelona. While he made five saves, Vaclik still shipped four and failed to make a successful cross claim to cap off a disappointing evening for the Sevilla man.
