West Ham turn to City for Batshuayi alternative

West Ham United will move for Manchester City outcast Wilfried Bony if they fail to land Belgian striker Michy Batshuayi in the summer, according to The Daily Telegraph.

The Hammers have made signing a top-class striker their main objective in the summer and co-chairman David Sullivan has already revealed the club have 10 candidates in mind.

However, Slaven Bilic’s side will put all their efforts into landing Marseille striker and Tottenham target Batshuayi before then turning their attentions to Bony if they fail in succeeding in their pursuit of the Belgium international.

Bony, 27, is expected to leave City in the summer with the striker unlikely to feature in Pep Guardiola’s plans going forward. West Ham can expect to have to pay in the region of £20m for the Ivory Coast international, who has failed to make any impact at City since making the £28m switch from Swansea in January 2015.

The east London outfit have also expressed an interest in Liverpool frontman Christian Benteke but are currently put off by his £120,000-a-week wages. Bony, conversely, earns £100,000-a-week and also receives a £20,000 game bonus, which they will not match.

Of players to have scored more than five league goals since January 2015, only four players have a worse conversion rate than Bony (8.6%).
