Koeman tells Manchester United target to snub Premier League
New Netherlands head coach Ronald Koeman has revealed he has advised Ajax starlet Justin Kluivert to turn down the chance to move to England.
Kluivert, who is the son of former Barcelona striker Patrick, has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United since breaking out onto the scene last season.
The 18-year-old is expected to make his senior Holland debut during the international break but Koeman has warned the teenager to ignore potential interest from United and other Premier League clubs.
“I spoke to him about this,” talkSPORT quote Koeman as saying in his news conference on Thursday. “He’s in talks with Ajax about his contract.
“I think the best is for him to stay in Holland because he’s only 18.”
Koeman will manage his first game in charge of the national team against England on Friday night.
The former Everton and Southampton manager has been tasked with getting Holland back to the summit of international football after they failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup.
Kluivert has been capped at every level of international football for Holland and his development could go a step further if Koeman calls on his services against England on Friday night.
Since making his league debut for Ajax last season, Kluivert has scored nine goals in 40 appearances.
