Madrid set to trigger Morata release clause

Real Madrid will trigger Alvaro Morata’s €30m (£21.9m) buy-back clause to bring the striker back to the Santiago Bernabéu next summer, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

Morata has impressed in the Champions League since making the switch from Madrid to Juventus 12 months ago and the Old Lady will reportedly offer the striker a new long-term contract in January in order to fend off interest from Madrid.

The Spaniard’s current deal is set to expire in 2019 and Gazzetta report Juventus are also trying to convince the striker’s agent to cancel the clause currently in place.

The 22-year-old scored two of Juventus’ three goals that knocked Madrid out of the semi-final stage of the Champions League last summer and there has been reports of his return ever since.

In fact, his form in European competition has been significantly better than it has in the league. Morata has scored six goals in 13 Champions League appearances compared to just eight goals in 29 league games.
