Manchester United confirm Fred agreement

Manchester United have announced they have reached an agreement with Ukrainian giants Shakhtar Donetsk for the signing of Fred.

Jose Mourinho has identified Fred as the ideal long-term replacement for Michael Carrick, who retired at the end of last season.

Fred was expected to join Manchester City in January but Pep Guardiola pulled a plug on the deal and now United have reached an agreement for his services.

“Manchester United is delighted to announce it has reached agreement with Shakhtar Donetsk for the transfer of Fred,” a statement read on the club’s official website.

The 25-year-old is currently in England preparing for the 2018 World Cup with Brazil and is currently in the process of putting the finishing touches on his deal.

Fred has reportedly completed his medical with the Red Devils and will be handed a five-year deal once all the loose ends are tied up.

His arrival is expected to kickstart another busy summer of change at United, with Porto teenager Diogo Dalot also expected to join this week.

Of the 34 players to have attempted at least 25 dribbles in the Champions League last season, Fred had the best success rate (88.5%).
