Crystal Palace have offered former Ajax and Inter boss Frank de Boer the chance to succeed Sam Allardyce as manager as they look to bring an end to their extensive search for a new man at the helm, reports The Guardian.
The Eagles have not had a manager since Allardyce made the shock decision to retire from football at the end of last season after steering the club to safety and they have been linked with a number of replacements ever since.
Burnley manager Sean Dyche and former Alaves head coach Mauricio Pellegrino have both been considered by Palace chairman Steve Parish, who has been guided by the club’s American owners David Blitzer and Josh Harris.
However, with Pellegrino expected to replace Claude Puel at Southampton, Palace have elected to offer De Boer the full-time job and are now ironing out the finer details before making an official announcement.
De Boer has been out of work since being sacked as Inter manager in November just 85 days into the job, having previously led Ajax to four successive Dutch league titles.
The 47-year-old will have money available to strengthen his squad but Palace are keen to reign in their spending after going big in recent transfer windows, while maintain the wage budget has also been made a priority.
