Watford want to replace Walter Mazzarri with Hull manager Marco Silva but face competition from Southampton and Porto, reports The Daily Telegraph.
The Hornets announced on Wednesday that Mazzarri would be stepping down as manager at the end of the current campaign after just one season at Vicarage Road and the search for his successor has already begun.
Despite failing to secure Hull's Premier League status, Silva’s reputation has only enhanced since replacing Mike Phelan as manager in January and he is now expected to inform the club that he will not continue as manager in the Championship next season.
Southampton will review Claude Puel’s job at the end of the season and have reportedly already sounded out Silva’s camp to get a feel for whether he would be interested in taking the job, while back in Silva’s homeland, Porto are also weighing up a move for the highly rated young coach.
The 39-year-old has not decided his next career move but has enjoyed working in the Premier League, which could work in Southampton and Watford’s favour. Had England’s top flight started when Silva took charge of Hull, the Tigers would currently be 12th on 21 points.
