Arsenal are looking to sign Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng on loan for the rest of the season before launching a big money raid for RB Leipzig's Dayot Upamecano later this year, reports The Daily Star.
The Gunners are looking to add another centre-back to the squad this month with head coach Mikel Arteta unhappy with his options at present and Calum Chambers out for the rest of the season.
Upamecano remains the top target for Arsenal, but they have accepted they are unlikely to land the Frenchman this month with RB Leipzig reluctant to sell the youngster.
Therefore, Arsenal are considering approaching Bayern about the prospect of signing Boateng, who has made just 10 league appearances this season.
Boateng has previous Premier League experience with Mancheste City and he is viewed as an ideal stop gap for the north London side.
The 31-year-old is currently averaging 84.1 passes per 90, the fifth best of those to make 10 or more Bundesliga appearances this season, to reinforce a statistically calculated WhoScored strength of 'passing'.
