Huddersfield manager signs new deal as club break transfer record

Huddersfield have announced David Wagner has committed his future to the club after signing a two-year deal with the newly-promoted Premier League side.

Wagner has been a revelation for Huddersfield since leaving Borussia Dortmund to become their head coach in November 2015 and led the Terriers to the Premier League in his first full season in charge.

There had been suggestions Dortmund were interested in bringing the German back to the club in the wake of Thomas Tuchel’s departure last month but the 45-year-old has now extended his stay with Huddersfield.

The Terriers also announced they have re-signed Aaron Mooy from Manchester City on a permanent deal worth a club-record £8m. The Australia international spent last season on loan at the club and played an integral part in their promotion-winning campaign, finishing the season as their Player of the Year.

Huddersfield agreed a deal earlier this month but were waiting for the midfielder to return from Confederations Cup duty with Australia before announcing the 26-year-old on a three-year deal.

Mooy won possession in the midfield third at least 22 more times than any other player in the Championship (including play-offs) last season (245).
