Liverpool have not rekindled their interest in Lyon captain Fekir

Liverpool are not looking to sign Lyon captain Nabil Fekir this summer contrary to reports suggesting oterhwise, claims The Independent.

Fekir came agonisingly close to joining Liverpool last summer in a £53m deal but a move collapsed at the twelfth hour after the France international underwent his medical examination.

It is alleged Liverpool wanted to restructure a deal for Fekir following unsatisfactory medical results before Lyon pulled the plug on the transfer.

Fekir has entered the final 12 months of his current Lyon deal and is free to leave the French side this summer.

Reports emerged earlier this week claiming Fekir was back on Liverpool’s radar but those suggestions are unfounded.

Lyon are still holding out for £45m for the 25-year-old despite the fact he could leave on a free transfer at the end of next summer.

Fekir scored nine goals and provided seven assists in 29 league appearances last season, 10 fewer goal involvements than he managed in the campaign leading up to Liverpool’s original interest.
