Liverpool have been given a boost in their pursuit of German midfielder Kevin Grosskreutz after the midfielder returned to Germany after feeling home sick in Turkey with Galatasaray.
Grosskreutz, 27, joined Galatasaray from Borussia Dortmund over the summer but the deal wasn’t completed in time to register him for their squad for the current campaign.
The Germany international can only play when players can be registered in January, but he has now returned to Dortmund and moved in with his mother and father after failing to settle.
“I underestimated everything,” Grosskreutz told Bild. “In retrospect, I have come to appreciate many things that I took for granted in the past.”
Liverpool have emerged as favourites to sign the midfielder, with Jurgen Klopp keen to reunite with several of his former Dortmund players.
In Klopp’s penultimate season with Dortmund in 2013/14, only Nuri Sahin (118) completed more tackles than Grosskreutz (84) in the Bundesliga for the team.
