Werner ready to join Liverpool

RB Leipzig star Timo Werner will join Liverpool if Jurgen Klopp's side trigger his £54m release clause before it expires on June 15, reports Sky Sports.

Werner has developed into one of Europe's most prolific strikers this season and has been heavily linked with a move to the likes of Bayern Munich and Liverpool in recent weeks.

The Germany international is widely expected to depart Leipzig before the start of next season and it is well-documented he has a release clause leaving the Bundesliga side vulnerable.

With Klopp desperate to add firepower to his offensive options, a move for Werner appears a natural fit and the 24-year-old is keen on a move to Anfield.

Any potential buyer has until June 15 to trigger Werner's release clause but Liverpool are not intent in doing so as football comes to terms with the financial impact of COVID-19.

Werner's current deal is not due to expire for another three years and Leipzig will be able to set the buying price for their star asset after June 15.

The German hotshot has played a direct hand in 28 goals in 25 league appearances for Leipzig this season, making it the best league campaign of his career to date by two goal involvements.
