Napoli are looking to strengthen their defence by signing Manchester United full-back Guillermo Varela, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.
Varela, 22, joined United from Penarol in 2013 but only made his first-team debut last month.
The Uruguayan defender spent a year on loan at Real Madrid Castilla last season where he thoroughly impressed Zinedine Zidane, who tried to convince the club to make the switch permanent.
Varela has only found himself in first-team contention because of a number of injuries that has left United’s backline thin of options and United are likely to reject any advances from Napoli because of that.
On his Champions League debut at the start of the month, no United player made more tackles against Wolfsburg than Varela (7).
