Fulham manager Claudio Ranieri is plotting a January raid on former club Chelsea for veteran centre-back Gary Cahill, claims Sky Sports.
Cahill is out of contract at the end of the season and will reportedly be allowed to leave Chelsea in January after falling out of favour under Maurizio Sarri.
The former England international will not be short of suitors in January and has already been linked with a surprise reunion with Jose Mourinho at Manchester United.
However, it has now emerged that new Fulham manager Ranieri would like to bolster his defensive options next month by signing Cahill.
Fulham are bottom of the Premier League and have conceded at least eight more goals than any other team (40) despite investing in their defence in the summer.
The Cottagers spent nearly £30m on new defenders before the start of the season and also signed Calum Chambers and Timothy Fosu-Mensah on loan.
Nevertheless, it’s an area that Ranieri has pinpointed that needs further attention in the January transfer window with the experience of Cahill at the top of his wish list.
The 32-year-old has only managed 21 minutes of playing time in the Premier League in one substitute appearance this season.
Cahill has been given playing time in the Europa League this season, where he started four of their six group games.
