Wayne Rooney ended his Premier League goal drought today at Old Trafford in a 3-0 win over Sunderland.
Although the England and Manchester United captain had not scored a Premier League goal since the 4th of April against Aston Villa, he wasn’t exactly short of goals. Rooney had found the back of the net 6 times in his 6 appearances for club and country in the buildup to today’s match.
Just 38 seconds into the second half of today’s game, Rooney ended his goalless run at 999 minutes after getting on the end of Anthony Martial’s cross.
Rooney wasn’t the only player to end a goal drought today. Alexis Sanchez finally got off the mark for Arsenal with a hat-trick against Leicester. The Chilean had not scored in the league since the 4th of May against Hull.
Meanwhile, Daniel Sturridge scored his first (and second) goal for Liverpool since returning from injury in a 3-2 win at Anfield over Aston Villa. The England international has now scored 5 goals in his last 4 appearances against the Villans.
