Inter close to signing Roma striker Dzeko

Inter have made progress on a deal to sign Roma striker Edin Dzeko, claims Gianluca Di Marzio.

New Inter manager Antonio Conte wants to overhaul the club’s options up front and has earmarked Dzeko and Manchester United forward Romelu Lukaku as top transfer targets.

Conte missed out on signing both strikers during his time as Chelsea manager, and while Inter need to first sell Mauro Icardi to raise funds to afford Lukaku, the Serie A giants are now closing in on Dzeko

Inter have reportedly agreed a €10m (£9m) fee with Roma and will send young forward Edoardo Vergani in the opposite direction.

Vergani’s agent, Federico Pastorello, who also represents Lukaku, was spotted at Inter’s headquarters on Tuesday to discuss his client’s involvement in a deal that would see Dzeko move to Inter.

Vergani, 18, is a product of Inter’s youth academy and now looks set to follow in the footsteps of Nicolo Zaniolo in switching Inter for Roma.

Inter sent Zaniolo to Roma in exchange for Radja Nainggolan 12 months ago and are using a similar deal in order to prise Dzeko away from their Serie A rivals.

Dzeko has spent the last three years at Roma and turned down the chance to join Chelsea 18 months ago during Conte’s time at Stamford Bridge. During his time in Serie A, the Bosnia international has scored 54 goals in 106 league games.
