Manchester United midfielder holding out for improved terms

Marouane Fellaini is yet to agree a new Manchester United deal and is holding out for improved terms, reports The Daily Mail.

Jose Mourinho sanctioned a new 12-month extension for Fellaini at the start of the year, but the United manager wants to reward the Belgium international with a new contract.

Fellaini is one of several United players that have entered the final 12 months of their existing deals but the club’s latest contract offer has fallen short of Fellaini’s demands.

The 29-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Turkey at the end of the summer transfer window but is highly regarded by Mourinho, who even claimed Galatasaray had more chance of making him manager than prising Fellaini away from Old Trafford.

It marks a remarkable turnaround in fortunes for the controversial midfielder, who has gone from being booed by United fans to one of Mourinho’s trusted lieutenants.

Fellaini made his first league start against former club Everton at the weekend after impressing against Basel in the Champions League last week.

United have marginally won a greater proportion of their Premier League matches with Fellaini in the starting XI (52.6) during Mourinho’s tenure compared to when he has not been included from the off (50%).
