Lyon midfielder hopeful over Roma move

Lyon midfielder Maxime Gonalons is keen on a move to Serve A side Roma this summer, reports French publication L’Equipe.

The 28-year-old midfielder made 28 league starts for Lyon last season, with his form in Ligue 1 attracting interest from Roma.

The Lyon captain has reached an agreement with the Rome side to move to Italy this summer, with Gonalons agreeing a four-year deal with Roma.

The two teams must now strike a deal over his transfer, with Roma lodging an initial undisclosed offer for the midfielder earlier this week.

Lyon are reluctant to cash in on Gonalons, but will not stand in his way over a potential move to the Stadio Olimpico and it’s thought that a transfer could be confirmed later this week.

Gonalons played a vital role for Lyon in Ligue 1 last season, averaging more tackles per game (4.4) than any other player in France’s top tier.

Roma have done business with Lyon already this year having taken Clement Grenier on loan in January, with an option to make his move permanent, though it remains to be seen whether they will exercise their right to buy him outright should they sign Gonalons.
